‘Diabetes – are you at risk?’
To mark Diabetes Week, Lloyds pharmacy launches its ‘Diabetes - are you at risk?’ campaign.
To raise awareness of the serious complications that can be caused by diabetes, including the 5,000 limbs that are lost to the condition every year, a stunning temporary ‘limb mountain’ sculpture was installed in Trafalgar Square, London, this week
7 million people in the UK are at risk of developing diabetes. The installation aims to encourage people to stop and think about whether they or their loved ones may be at risk of developing diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is often preventable and, for people who are at risk, it is often not too late to turn back the clock.
For the first time, people can now assess their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes on their iPhone or android smart phone (downloadable via the App Store or Android Marketplace). People can also have a diabetes check-up at their local Lloyds pharmacy; those found to be at an increased risk are invited to have a free diabetes blood test.
